Our optometrists provide complete eye examination services including evaluation for cataracts, ocular infections, visual side effects of medications, visual effects of diabetes and other systemic disorders as well as glaucoma and other eye diseases.
The visual evaluation will assess the resident's visual acuity, eye movement skills, peripheral and central visual fields, intraocular pressure (glaucoma), integrity of the ocular structures (eye infections, cataracts, etc.) as well as objective and subjective evaluations of the residents' refractive condition (eyeglass prescription). Another service available will be the residents who participate in the state Medicaid Programs. All private pay patients will be offered a discounted fee through our plan. Recommendations for surgical, medical, and/or refractive care will also be made.
Many ocular problems develop painlessly without any symptoms until the late stages of the disease. Cataracts, glaucoma and retinal degeneration are just a few ocular diseases we must diagnose early to save the resident's eyesight. Often, a GERIATRIC patient cannot inform staff members or family members of any visual problem they might be experiencing. Therefore, it is very important for these patients to have complete routine eye examinations to detect any ocular disease.
Good sight and improved vision can make a drastic improvement upon the standard of living in residents of a nursing home environment. Advancing age increases the prevalence of eye diseases and illustrates the importance of routine eye care for the elderly.
